Getting Pretty Serious, Happy 2 Month Anniversary Czechia <3
Ahoj all! It's been a little while, but I am back and with a bit of a longer post this week. Over the past two weeks I have visited Prague, gone to Liberec again, and celebrated Halloween. Beyond that I've been laying low and just hanging out (exchange and trying to learn another language are tiring!!). Furthermore though, I have officially been in this beautiful country for two whole months!!!!!! I am very happy here, I've made great friends, have a nice host family, am enjoying my school, am finding the language easier every day, and am so excited for the next 8 months here.
This past Thursday I had my very first visit to Prague. I went to the city with eight other girls from my school and our art teacher who had arranged the field trip for students at our school who were interested in visiting a few exhibitions in the city. To start we went to Krištof Kintera's Nervous Trees at the Galerie Rudolfinum. The exhibit was quite interesting, it included many thought provoking and clever observations and pieces. I enjoyed it quite a bit and am glad to have seen it. Following that we visited an open house at UMPRUM (the art school in Prague) just across the street. Getting to see the studios and spaces in which people are making their art was really cool and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Observing art in the spaces where it's being created is very different from observing it in a gallery. Following lunch and a nice walk we finally went to Designblok. Designblok is the Prague International Design Festival. It only runs for four days and was the main reason we went to Prague. The festival was really cool, it featured numerous designers and companies who produced everything from cars, to chocolate, to chandeliers, to dishes, to virtual reality. It was really interesting and I enjoyed seeing so much creativity and innovation displayed in one space. Overall I quite enjoyed my eight hours in the capital and am excited to return in a couple weeks to explore more.
On Friday, we returned to Liberec. This trip we decided to visit IQlandia, the science museum. The weather wasn't very nice so this was a great way to pass the time indoors. The museum featured lots of interesting and interactive displays about everything from anatomy, to gravity, to forensics. I enjoyed the morning we spent there quite a bit. My favorite thing though was the human gyroscope (pictured below).
Now last, but not least we have Halloween. Halloween is a little bit different here since it's not celebrated. Now, I love Halloween and was not allowing the day to pass unrecognized. To celebrate this year I wore my costume to school (Nancy Wheeler from Stranger Things, super on the down-low though cause I didn't want to look like the only weirdo in school dressed up, see below for photo.) At home I watched the finale of Stranger Things season 2, listened to Halloween songs, made popcorn balls, and ate candy. Overall, Halloween was rather different for me here, but was still enjoyable and fun.
Okay, so I hope you have all enjoyed this post. If you're reading this chances are you're someone in Canada who I miss very much, so I'd like to say a general I miss you to everyone at home. I'm really enjoying my time here, and look forward to keeping you all updated on my future adventures.
